Kilimanjaro Express: New work by Terri P Tufts

Kilimanjaro Express: My African Adventure, new work by Terri P Tufts will open at Mastroianni Photography and Arts on Friday, April 13th, from 6-10PM and runs throughout the month of April (other hours by appointment). This exhibit features work inspired by Ms. Tufts’ recent trip to climb Mt. Kilimanjaro in Tanzania, the highest peak on the African continent. Tom Orange will be providing musical ambiance with trumpet, percussion and electronic stylings at 8 oclock and FRASS ACCOLADES will perform at 9 pm at Friday’s opening.

Join us for a gallery talk and presentation by the artist on Friday, April 27th, at 7PM.

Terri P Tufts graduated from the Cleveland Institute of Art in 1988 with a BFA in Printmaking and a Minor in Painting. Born in Southern California, she has lived in the Cleveland area since 1983.
Currently, Terri lives in Columbia Station with her daughter, dog, cat and fishes and has a studio on her property in which she operates her business “Art Crimes Inc.” which specializes in Decorative Painting, Murals, Fine Art, Theatrical Painting, Interior Decorating/ Contemporary Church Interiors and many other strange and interesting artistic projects that come along. She recently had an exhibit at the Brandt Gallery in August of 2011 that showcased her personal artwork.

Ron Knight X 2: Extended!

We’re excited to show for the final time “How Did We Get Here?”, a collaborative show by Ron Knight and his son, on Friday January 13th, 2012. This has been extended from the previously announced closing.

This installation has evolved over the season, with the narrative of the protagonist “Gilbert” taking shape through the growing details of the piece.

Ron Knight x 2: How Did We Get Here?

I’m psyched to present a new installation by Ron Knight and his son Ron Knight III, opening next week for Tremont ArtWalk (10/14). Ron was one of the first artists I showed at Mastroianni Photography and Arts back in 2009–his work is provocative, confident, and filled with humor and depth. We’re looking forward to his new installation!

Ron’s show, accompanied by his son Ron III, share artistic work in a collaborative effort. In Ron’s contribution you are asked to touch, sense and place your experience within his work. He urges you to become part of the awareness.

Travel with the artist on this journey, to the places you have narrowed your thought, or expanded it, sometimes a place within that you did not even know had a reaction or emotion. Ron is asking you…… “How did we get here?”

This exhibition will run from October through December of 2011, evolving with each Artwalk opening. Join us for receptions on Friday, October 14th, November 11, and December 9.

Brandt21 continues through September

This year marks the 21st anniversary of Brandt Gallery, one of the first and longest running art galleries in the Tremont neighborhood. In recognition of Jean Brandt’s ongoing dedication and promotion of area artists and the Tremont Artwalk, Dana Depew and I are pleased to have helped organize and mount this retrospective of artists who have shown at Brandt gallery.

The exhibit opens Friday, September 2 · 5:00pm - 11:00pm at Brandt Gallery, 1028 Kenilworth, and Mastroianni Photography and Arts, 2688 W. 14th, both in the historic Tremont neighborhood. The exhibit continues for the September Tremont Artwalk on Friday, September 9. Open gallery hours will continue on Saturday September 10 and September 17th from 12-3, or by appointment. The show runs through the month of September, 2011.

The Deliberate Portrait–Closing Reception

Join us on Friday, August 12, 2011 during the monthly Tremont Artwalk for the final public showing of this exhibit!

The Deliberate Portrait includes studio portraits taken between 2001 and 2011, many never before seen (not even by some of the subjects!). Over 75 prints will be displayed, many newly struck for the exhibition.

The exhibition was inspired by and includes some images from the so-called Literary Sets, a series of portrait sessions shot at the Literary Cafe in Tremont throughout the double-oughts, and expanded with a continuing series of less than formal portraits shot in the studio. The approach is deliberate from my point of view, presenting subjects in an immediate and sometimes disarmed manner.

The show, which has been on exhibit all summer, will close August 12, 2011, so this is your last chance to see it!

The Deliberate Portrait, A Retrospective, will continue this month during the Tremont Artwalk on June 10, with local musician John Henry Scully providing an ambient musical setting for the images.

Scully, a drummer on the Cleveland scene for more than a quarter century, is setting aside the drum sticks in favor of a solo performance from within the virtual grid. Utilizing his laptop and a touchpad mini-synth, Scully will improvise ambient textures, grooves and the occasional odd trip. Moments of doubt will be subject to a vast collection of delay effects and/or a blank stare.

And it’s time to switch out the old, fading prints for some fresh shots from this past year… For those of you who don’t frequent the W.14th thoroughfare , here’s a glimpse.

We’re gearing up for spring and summer with a new retrospective of my portrait work, consisting of studio shots from the late ’90s through this year. Most of this work has never been seen before, and will be presented in large format digital and traditional prints. “The Deliberate Portrait: A Retrospective” runs from May through August 2011.
