The Deliberate Portrait–Closing Reception

Join us on Friday, August 12, 2011 during the monthly Tremont Artwalk for the final public showing of this exhibit!

The Deliberate Portrait includes studio portraits taken between 2001 and 2011, many never before seen (not even by some of the subjects!). Over 75 prints will be displayed, many newly struck for the exhibition.

The exhibition was inspired by and includes some images from the so-called Literary Sets, a series of portrait sessions shot at the Literary Cafe in Tremont throughout the double-oughts, and expanded with a continuing series of less than formal portraits shot in the studio. The approach is deliberate from my point of view, presenting subjects in an immediate and sometimes disarmed manner.

The show, which has been on exhibit all summer, will close August 12, 2011, so this is your last chance to see it!

The Deliberate Portrait–continuing in June with guest musician John Henry Scully

The Deliberate Portrait, A Retrospective, will continue this month during the Tremont Artwalk on June 10, with local musician John Henry Scully providing an ambient musical setting for the images.

Scully, a drummer on the Cleveland scene for more than a quarter century, is setting aside the drum sticks in favor of a solo performance from within the virtual grid. Utilizing his laptop and a touchpad mini-synth, Scully will improvise ambient textures, grooves and the occasional odd trip. Moments of doubt will be subject to a vast collection of delay effects and/or a blank stare.

We’re looking forward to an interesting and revamped year here at the studio and gallery!

Starting out with The First Fifty, a juried show put on by Tri-C photo students Victoria Stanbridge and Joe Nicosia this Friday (1/7), we go right into Artwalk week (1/14) with a live musical performance by Simple Minded Brute accompanied by a reading by erotica writer Neve Black.

We will continue to feature more special events at the gallery, while devoting the walls to a select few artists to be announced. I will also continue featuring more of my own work in several ongoing installations throughout the year.
