The Literary Sets 2001-2010, open Friday July 9

I’m stoked to finally show this body of work from four different sessions spanning almost a decade. The “Literary Set(s)” are portrait series taken at the historic/nostalgic Literary Cafe in the Tremont neighborhood. Each session consisted of a temporary studio setup in the back room of the Literary Cafe, where patrons were invited to step up and have their photos taken at no charge and very little direction. The resulting series reveal sometimes very candid and casual portraits working as parts of a larger body of work. Each session featured different set ups and formats, including medium format on a black seamless, 4×5 positive/negative polaroid on a white seamless, curtains and stage lighting, and a red seamless on the occasion of an Oscar™ party.

The exhibit will be up for the months of June and July, with receptions on Art-Walk nights of June 11 and July 9 at Mastroianni Photography and Arts.

Maggie and Jesse get wet and get married

On a late spring day in June, heavy with dark clouds and showers, Maggie and Jesse tied the knot and celebrated at Portage Country Club in Akron. Unified by themes of lemon and lime, the green umbrellas made a perfect accessory to the persistent rain of the day.

“Don’t you ever get tired of photographing all of those brides?” Well not really, but that doesn’t mean I don’t relish the opportunity to shoot a few other things as well. One of those gigs just happened to be creating some images for one of the best restaurants in Cleveland, The Flying Fig. Chef/Owner Karen Small wanted to capture some of the essence of the place, from the dishes to the dining room, and from the kitchen to the staff themselves. Here are a few highlights; and please, if your mouth starts to water, just go make yourself a reservation.
